Nyka.Nashe’ AKA Nana Atakora or Nana Pittman was born in Jacksonville, Florida. Her pen name which is an acronym for her given name is N.y.k.a. She was reared by her father a prominent political figure of Ghana, West Africa and her mother a retired Naval officer. She was raised in the slums of Miami’s toughest neighborhood Opa-locka. Her mother remarried early on which gifted her with two- half siblings and a step-father. To escape the stresses of being a misunderstood child she began to write short stories and mimic the popular music of her time. As she advanced through grade school and on to high school she would constantly find herself in the library or in a literary contest. She took to writing for her high school yearbook and eventually began to pen her own novels. She has won many awards for her stirring writing to include a nomination into Who’s who of literary writers and a nomination for Silver Knights award in Journalism. Her writing influences are said to be Mya Angelou and Toni Morrison. The goal of her writing is to uplift and entertain with true gritty stories. She is quotes as saying “When the lights go out and all you have is each other , you better have a good story to tell- NYKAtheAuthor The first novel in her catalogue is a racy and tale of an exotic dancer who finds herself in one of the cities toughest clubs. The character reveals the effects of abuse and mischief in the book titled Flavors of Deceit. She has subsequently evolved into more mature topics such as domestic violence, civil injustice, child abuse and post partum depression with her recent publication called Stormi’s story she chronicles her abusive childhood in a nail biting coming ove age story that might make you cry. She is a youth advocate and philanthropist in the area of youth literacy and financial wellness.
